Sheesh! I feel like I just got back from Philly, and tomorrow I’m bound for Baltimore!
This has been a year of travel for me, and even though it’s been tough to pull off, it’s been totally worth it. I’ve not only been able to amp up my skill set and improve my business, but I’ve gotten some quality facetime (like, real facetime, not iPhone Facetime) with so many of the friends I’ve only known in the virtual world.
Yay for real, live colleagues and besties! The only problem? I have loads of great photos and videos, but I’m not in any of them. And if there are photos and videos of me from these events, I don’t know who has them or how to get them. Wouldn’t it be great if the next time you went to a conference (or any social event), there was one place where ALL the photos and video from that event were available in one place?
Good news! That place exists, and it’s the new Seahorse app!
The Seahorse app is an easy way to share ownership of all the photos and videos from one particular life “scene,” like a wedding, vacation, family reunion or business function. It doesn’t matter who took what photo and you won’t have to track them down because as long as you invite someone into your scene, all of the media from that particular event will be co-owned by everyone.
The app itself is beautifully designed and easy to navigate (because ain’t nobody got time for complicated apps. If it’s hard, we move along…amiright?) Wherever photos and videos are stored – Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, Flickr, Google/Picasa, wherever – you can easily import them in their original resolution and sort by friend, year or place. (And, of course, Seahorse is always private. Access to your scenes is by invite only!)
There are even fun features like daily flashbacks from today’s date in previous years, and Magic, which allows you to shake your phone for a random encounter with your past!
Wait, what’s that again?
So, it took me a minute to really understand Seahorse, so let me break it down: First, you download the app for your iPhone or Android device. Then, create a scene based on some kind of group event where photos were taken.
Once you create a scene, invite the friends and/or family who also attended that event. After they accept, you all combine your memories from that event.
You all end up with a well-rounded bunch of memories, not just the ones from your own perspective. Don’t you love that? You’ll see things you may have missed, and you might actually be IN some of the pictures, instead of only having the ones you took. And you’re bound to find some fun surprises in there. (The only pics I usually like of myself are candid, so this gives me hope!)
For example, I got to spend time with some friends at a recent blogger event in Philly, and I took this photo. The first thing I need to do is create a scene (I’ll call it “Fun in Philly”.) Then, I invite Jenn and Jessica to join the scene so they can upload their pics and videos, too (and Jenn’s a vlogger, so rest assured…she has video!)
In the end, we all end up with full blogger coverage of the event, and if one of us missed a sponsor photo or something we need for a post, we can just check there to see if someone else got it. SO helpful, right?
There’s gold in them there scenes!
This whole idea is so helpful for bloggers, especially, because we’re always documenting everything, and conferences generate so much media. There’s no way to keep track of it all, and a lot gets lost in the shuffle. This way, we can all go home, combine our stuff, and sort through to see what everyone else got. I can only imagine the gems people are finding in their group scenes that they never would have known existed without Seahorse!
