Seed Library Craft for Kids (with @ZINKhAppy Giveaway)

This project was sponsored by ZINK Imaging. All opinions are my own.

I hope you’re here today, craft creators, scrapbook fans, label lovers and organization fanatics, because this post is for YOU.

Meet the ZINK hAppy Smart App Printer™. What is it? Well, it’s a portable, Wi-Fi® printer that lets you design and print directly from your smartphone or tablet. Print what? Well, anything you can design using all those photos on your phone and the easy-to-use smartphone/tablet app (more on that below.)

ZINK hAppy Smart App Printer Giveaway

Instead of regular paper, this printer uses a unique acid-free, adhesive-backed roll called a Zroll (available in 5 sizes.)  The really cool thing about the Zrolls is that even though the paper is made to stick,  you can easily reposition your designs if you put them on incorrectly or change your mind about placement (unlike most stickers.) Over time, the adhesive becomes permanently secure so it won’t slip or fall off.

Great for folks like me, who cannot rest if forced to leave a sticker slightly crooked. (Eek!) The Zroll paper is photo-quality, and (get this!) the whole setup prints without ink!

You do not have to purchase ink cartridges!

ZINK roll

Whether you’re a craft newbie or a seasoned pro, the ZINK hAppy Smart App Printer will be a snap for you to use. (There’s a convenient quick start guide included to get you started in minutes.)

Just download the free ZINK Design & Print Studio™ app onto your smartphone or tablet, load a ZINK zRoll™,  create your masterpiece using the app’s library of graphics, colors, text, frames and more, and hit print.

The only thing you really have to remember to do is toggle your wi-fi to the printer instead of your home network. Easy peasy.

The app is compatible with iPhone®, iPad®, and iPod touch®, as well as Android™ smartphone and tablets and Amazon Kindle Fire™ tablets. Just about anyone can get in on the design fun!

So, you might be wondering, what did we make first with our ZINK hAppy?

Um, this:

ZINK hAppy

Haha! That’s a screenshot from my iPhone – it’s my daughter’s creation. Yes, my kids were able to use the app from start to finish on their own! They made their own ZINK art for hours – that’s how easy it is!

And then I pulled out our handy ZINK toolkit and got to work. Our first project: a photo box seed library for kids!

ZINK hAppy Smart App Printer

This one is for my son, since he’s pretty disappointed that our growing season has really slowed down. We’re working on learning what grows best in our area at different times throughout the year, so this is the perfect way to get organized while keeping him interested and busy. (Our teachers have been on strike for 12 days, so lessons and activities are sorely needed.)

ZINK Seed Library Craft For Kids

The first thing I did was choose my photos, and create the banner for the lid of our photo box. We personalized it with my son’s name and his favorite photo of himself harvesting our Rose Finn potatoes just a few weeks ago. We had our banner in about 5 minutes flat!

Then I created tabs for each season. The labels were easy to design using graphics from the app’s seasonal section, and we included an appropriate veggie on each. Each label was put on a piece of cardstock measured and cut to fit inside our photo box.

Finally, we created an extra ZINK strip with lots of garden details to cut out and personalize our box. See how user-friendly the app screen is? I didn’t even need a tutorial, and that’s a great timesaver.

The utility knife in the ZINK toolkit came in handy for cutting out our ladybug and butterfly friends. The Zroll paper is really easy to cut, and you can get pretty precise with it if you have the patience and steady hand. I did the best I could, but I’d like to practice a bit for other projects I have in mind.

The toolkit also includes scissors, a ruler, a burnisher, bone folder, tweezers and a stapler.

ZINK Seed Library Craft For Kids

And voila! Our finished Garden Seed Library! My son started gathering seeds up right away and trying to decide which season they should go in. (I, on the other hand, started thinking about my next project. To find out what it will be, go check out Lindsay’s project over at See Mom Click!)

Seed Library Craft For Kids

The ZINK hAppy printer is just about the coolest little craft tool we have, and I plan to use it for all kinds of creative things around the holidays, like jar labels, invitations, place cards and gift tags. But it’s great for everyday practical uses, too, like labeling your charger cords or spice jars, or putting your child’s photo on their lunchbox.

The uses are endless…and so is the fun!
