This post is a Hershey restaurant review in partnership with Hershey Resorts. Our visit was hosted, and all opinions are our own.
When planning a trip to Hershey, PA, it’s easy to get hung up on the chocolate–and with good reason. It’s everywhere, and it’s the best. But, there’s so much more to dining in Hershey than just letting your sweet tooth run wild! Hershey restaurants are true destinations for foodies and families alike, and now there’s a new one in town. Fire & Grain recently opened at Hershey Lodge, and it was #1 on our list of things to do during our last visit to The Sweetest Place on Earth.
The Latest Addition to the Hershey Restaurants Lineup
Fire & Grain features gathering tables, a fire wall, and a full service bar. The menu is rich with re-mastered comfort foods like Baked Seafood Mac & Cheese and Crispy Fried Oyster Toast with bacon, asparagus and horseradish béarnaise. Small plates feature classics with a twist, like a modern Deviled Egg Trio, and the flatbreads go casual with Buffalo Chicken or a little more daring, with Prosciutto, Fig and Balsamic.
Attire at Fire & Grain is resort casual. Complimentary valet parking available at the main Hershey Lodge entrance, located off University Drive.
If you’re interested in cocktails, you’ll most definitely find the Hershey restaurant mainstays, including the Hershey’s™ Kisses™ Signature Chocolate Martini (there are caramel and peanut butter versions, too!) But I really got excited when I saw the Seasonal Specialty Cocktail Collection. I opted for the Cucumber Mint Fizz, but the Barrel-aged Negroni and Bartlett Pear Cosmo are on my list for next time.
You just can’t beat a cocktail menu with lots of cane syrup and fresh, muddled herbs.
The big question: How was the food?
In short, fabulous. Not a complaint among us. But I’m sure your hungry for more details, so here goes: Whether you want a salad, burger, or something a little more hearty, you’ll find it at Fire & Grain. My husband went with the Steak Burger, with slow-roasted tomato, caramelized onions, thick cut bacon, and blue cheese on a seeded brioche bun. No ordinary fries showed up alongside it – no, these were twice-cooked crispy potatoes and they were sublime.
My meal was the Hearth-roasted Chicken Breast, a slow-roasted crispy chicken with shiitake mushroom risotto that had me cleaning my plate. I could have done with something green on the plate, but no bother. The dreamy risotto left me wishing for nothing.
You simply cannot go to any of the Hershey restaurants without ordering dessert. I’m pretty sure it’s the law, and we obeyed to the letter.
This is the Dutch Skillet. Nope, no chocolate – but the sweet baked popover filled with fresh summer berries and real whipped cream and a dusting of powdered sugar was like a happy, delightful little dessert cloud. I couldn’t get enough of the light and airy–still yet rich–combo, and the kids loved it, too.
Of course, ignoring chocolate wouldn’t be right, so the gooey, melty S’mores Jar found its way to our table, too. Warm and toasty, with real Hershey’s milk chocolate and a perfectly torched marshmallow top, this one is not to be missed.
Hint: Order two, because once you taste it, you’re probably going to regret agreeing to share.
Fire & Grain Hours
- Breakfast: Daily, 7 – 11 AM
- Bar Menu: Daily, 3 – 4:30 PM
- Dinner: Daily, 4:30 – 11 PM
Know what that means? Yup, a spectacular breakfast menu to fuel you up for a day at Hersheypark or WaterWorks. From Omelets to Lemon Quinoa Pancakes, there’s nothing missing from this menu.
My personal recommendation? Go with the buffet for the kids. At $8.95, it’s a steal. (Adults are $19.95)
Fresh fruit, pastries, a steel-cut oatmeal station, breakfast sausage and crispy bacon, and even Eggs Benedict and omelets made fresh to order. And yes, you can load up your pancakes and waffles with Hershey’s chocolate chips. Hungry yet?
Do not – I repeat DO – leave without your fair share of the famous chocolate butter.
You heard me.
It’s safe to say we enjoyed both of our trips to Fire & Grain (both dinner and breakfast) and we’ll be back. I mean, where else can you find Braised Short Rib on the kids’ menu? (Oh, did I forget to mention that? I’ve never seen my kid eat so fast!)
