Frozen Craft Idea: DIY Snowflake Mirror

This Frozen craft idea has been brought to you by DollarTree.com.

FROZEN Craft Idea: DIY Snowflake Mirror

The last time my son and I went into Dollar Tree, it was right when they were starting to bring out the Christmas and winter holiday decorations. Well, somebody on their team of buyers deserves a huge gold star because they had an entire endcap display of white snowflakes in all shapes and sizes, along with tons of craft supplies in that beautiful Elsa blue we’re all seeing in our sleep!

It was a FROZEN-inspired crafting storm, just waiting to happen!

I grabbed one of everything. (Well, not everything. There was a lot.) But we did get some lovely sheer ribbon, snowflake window stickers and ornaments, and pretty colored Scotch duct tape.

And the foundation for our project: an 11″ x 14″ plastic-framed mirror that cost – you guessed it – a dollar! The mirrors and frames at Dollar Tree are SO great for crafting because they’re super lightweight and (obviously) inexpensive.

The first thing I did was cover the edges of the mirror with the duct tape. The gold wasn’t right for FROZEN colors, but the teal-y blue color was perfect.

Once the edges were covered, I attached a long ribbon to each side on the back with a little hot glue and a piece of tape to reinforce it. This is where the light weight of the mirror comes in really handy, because the ribbon can easily hold it. (Ribbon is slightly angled because I planned to tie a bow at the top before hanging.

This was when I realized exactly how many snowflakes I had. Is there such a thing as too many? Even in a FROZEN craft?

Nah.

My son was still in a crafty mood after our Baby Groot project, so he jumped in to help and we put the silver window decals on first. (And honestly, we could have stopped here because it looked really pretty as it was.)

But when he got wind of the fact that this was for his sister, he wasn’t about to let it go without a ton of sparkly snowflakes. A little hot glue, and we were finished in no time!

If I were doing this project on my own, I might have changed the placement of the snowflakes, but seeing my son so excited about making an “Elsa mirror” for his sister just melted me. I couldn’t help but let him do pretty much whatever he wanted.

For the price of supplies, this could be a fantastic birthday party craft (especially considering we’ve been invited to 3 FROZEN parties already this winter!) or a great project for a girl scout troop. I’m definitely going back for another mirror so we can try our hand at a Ninja Turtle version, too!

Six dollars + twenty minutes = one very proud little boy!

Dollar Tree is a great resource for a lot of things, but I really think their craft supplies are one of the best values around. If you’re doing any crafting this season – and especially if you need Frozen colors – be sure to check there first!

Are you a Dollar Tree shopper? A FROZEN fan? Both?

That turned out really nice. It looks much more elegant than a dollar store item. These would make cute gifts.
