If there’s one thing I love as a mom, it’s making holidays special for my kids. NOTHING takes me back to my childhood like a hand-decorated Carvel® ice cream cake. And now that they’re available to pick up in your local grocery store, they’re the easiest way to bring those holiday smiles without a ton of extra work!
Why Carvel ice cream cake? Well, Carvel was a special place for our family during those years. We went often, and I still remember each family member’s order (my mom always got a Black Bordeaux Cherry Sundae with chocolate soft serve, and it still my idea of pure heaven.) Those old-school commercials featuring Fudgie the Whale ice cream cakes were sprinkled throughout my formative years, popping up in every cartoon I watched.
Then, when I got my first job in an ice cream shop, I told the boss and head ice cream cake decorator, “Hey, I can make those!” And let me. That turned into more years as a cake decorator than I care to count, and in a twisty-yet-straight-as-an-arrow way, led directly to the career in retail marketing that I love. (Not to mention a lifetime of foodie interest and a love of those chocolate cake crunchies that has endured ever since.)
When it comes to celebrating the holidays, ice cream cakes make them special for me, and now my kids love them, too. There are so many things to do for each holiday – t’s to cross and i’s to dot – why not leave the dessert up to the pros who want to make it easy, right? There are lots of things you can do to make an ice cream cake your own, too. You just have to think beyond the box.
Upgrade Your Easter Cake
A limited edition Carvel Easter Bunny Cake is right at home on a bed of dyed green coconut sprinkled with Easter candies. It’s a centerpiece that will makes everyone’s eyes pop, and it takes all of about 5 minutes to set up. Those minutes saved are minutes spent doing things that are much more fun, like hanging with the friends and family buzzing about your house on the holiday.
What else can you do? With an ice cream Easter cake, there are lots of pretty cool options. Drizzle each plate with fresh raspberry puree before plating your slices. Set out fresh strawberries (maybe chocolate dipped?) to brighten up each place. Blow it up with a toppings bar so each person can top their slice with lots of favorites. Or, just serve it simply as it is. With layers of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, chocolate crunchies, and fresh whipped icing (hand decorated!), the hunt for the perfect Easter dessert is over.
