Back-to-school shopping can be daunting, but not half as daunting as the realization that all the new clothes you buy might not fit a month from now.
I know. Debbie Downer. But it’s true! Kids grow fast, and they burn through clothes at warp speed. It can be really frustrating because if you buy new, you might find yourself getting rid of clothing that has barely been worn. If you buy used, you can’t really bank on the quality you might find.
But check this out – I was asked to share with my readers a new online shopping site called Schoola that provides a great win/win style solution for parents and kids.
Not only can you buy gently used name brand clothing for kids at a great price, but when you donate your kids’ clothing to Schoola, your local school will receive a donation for every item sold! So, of course, I was happy to check out what Schoola had to offer, and tell you all about it!)
Shopping. Twist my arm…and wait till you see the stuff we found!
First, a bit about Schoola:
Launched in San Francisco in 2012, Schoola was founded by Stacey Boyd, a parent, former teacher and principal who was determined to create a new way to raise money for school programs that foster creativity. She recognized that art, music, physical education, and foreign language are essential for kids, yet they are often the very programs that are lost when budget cuts hit.
Schoola provides a much needed solution by enabling parents to donate their children’s pre-loved clothes to the online store at Schoola.com. 40% of each sale is then donated to the school of their choice. Over 300 schools all across the U.S. have received the proceeds from these clothes and Schoola continues to develop innovative ways to raise funds for a continuously expanding network of schools.
What you’ll find:
When you shop with Schoola, you’ll find quality used clothing for boys and girls, in 3 different size/age ranges: Preschoola (1–5 years), Grade Schoola (6–12) and High Schoola (13+). Shopping is easy – just sort by size, style, condition or brand, and browse everything from tops and bottoms to accessories and footwear.
The folks at Schoola asked me to see what I could find for $20, and I was up to the challenge! I sorted by condition and chose “perfect” or “good” and found many of the brands we like because they hold up well: Gymboree, Tea Collection, Hanna Andersson and more.
We settled on the Gymboree sweater my son is wearing in the photos above, and two Baby Gap dresses for my little lady. (Hers are just a *tad* big at 3T. She’s in a 2T now, so we’ll just stash them for a little bit. It’s normal to have a stash of dresses, right?)
They were so cute and in such great shape, I just couldn’t pass them up. Here’s one:
…and here’s the other. With cable knit tights and brown mary janes? TOO CUTE.
The sweater for my son was $8.49, and the dresses were $10.17 and $8.09. Honestly, they’re really like new, and I’ve been checking Schoola.com regularly since for new arrivals. The prices are just my style, and knowing that my purchases are supporting creative education makes me feel like I’m getting an even better deal. Plus, kids play hard. We just went to the playground today and I was reminded yet again why paying full price for kids’ clothing *can be* a waste of money.
I want the kiddos to look good, but if something gets ripped, stained, or otherwise ruined, I’d much rather be out $8 than $30!
Today, we’re 3,000 schools strong. Schoola brings new paints to art classes, new instruments to the orchestra, new books for the libraries. Quality clothes get a second life. Parents help parents. Schools help schools. Schoola makes all this happen by giving children the tools they need to succeed.
