Ah, the Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish® cracker. My childhood was filled with Goldfish cracker moments, like sitting at the table with my Pop Pop, sorting through my favorites: the pretzel ones. Some just seemed cuter than others, I distinctly remember. That was a long time ago, but I still love a handful of happy little snacks and now, my own kids do, too. Now that it’s back-to-school time and after-school snacks will be a hot commodity, it’s time to start putting those crunchy little guys to work since they just seem to be made for Goldfish cracker snack mixes, like the winner we made today. (My son told me so!)
Cheddar Apple Pie Snack Mix
- Single pie crust dough, store-bought or from your favorite recipe.
- 2 Tbsp butter, melted
- 1 Tablespoon apple pie spice
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup pretzels
- 1 cup Cheddar Goldfish crackers
- 1 cup dried apple slices or chips
- ½ cup raisins
- ¼ cup cinnamon chips
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Roll out pie crust, or if using premade, remove from refrigerator. Place dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with butter; sprinkle with apple pie spice mixture. Cut into thin strips with a knife or pizza cutter, then cut again the opposite way to create small squares. Arrange pieces so they are all face up with a bit of space in between and bake for approx. 10 minutes or until slightly golden brown. Remove from oven to cool.
- Once pie crust pieces have cooled, combine all ingredients in a large bowl and stir to mix.
Cheddar and apple is one of my very favorite flavor combinations. Whether it’s a mild Cheddar crust nestled below cinnamon-y apple slices, or a simple plate of Honeycrisp wedges with thick sharp slices on the side, the combination is just a little “slice” of heaven. That’s why this snack mix is just so darned good that I can barely keep my hands out of it when I’m packing it up for the kiddos. It’s got cheesy Cheddar Goldfish crackers paired with tart and chewy dried apples and raisins, crunchy pretzels, chewy raisins and dried apples, along with freshly baked pie crust squares sprinkled with apple pie spice. Then, just for the perfect touch of sweetness, some tiny cinnamon chips.
Every ingredient is available at Walmart – even the dried apples! You can find them in the Produce Department, along with lots of other fresh fruits and veggies for those little lunchboxes.

The only part of this snack mix that takes any time at all is making the pie crust pieces, but trust me – they’re worth it. Grab a premade crust in the dairy aisle and it will only take you about 10 minutes to create these cute and buttery little pie crust squares. (Or, if you’re a pie crust purist, take the time to make your favorite recipe at home. I used to be, but I don’t expect to be again until my kids are both in school.)
The apple pie spice makes the whole kitchen smell super yummy, and the same can be said for your snack bowl. Get the little ones involved in helping – this is one fun and easy job if you have little helpers around. (Of course, an adult should supervise oven use and any cutting…)
The rest of it? Well, that’s easy. Just mix.
Hint: Make your mix a smarter choice with Made with Whole Grain Cheddar Goldfish crackers. Huge shout out to them for sourcing all their coloring from natural ingredients – and that goes for the “Colors” Goldfish snacks, too! All those pretty colors come from plants!)
Salty, sweet, cheesy, fruity, and definitely unique. This is one snack mix that just keeps getting more interesting as you dig in. You’ll dig the savings when you stop in at Walmart, too, since there’s a rollback of $5.98 on 30 oz. bulk Goldfish crackers!
