Celebrate Earth Month: DivaCup Review and Giveaway

Psst…guess what.

There’s kind of a revolution going on. You want in? Sure, but I’m going to have to talk about period stuff for a minute…

K? K.

I grew up thinking there were 2 options for feminine products: pads or tampons. I guess the ol’ OB could be considered a third option depending on how you look at it, and I did prefer those for a while because there was no applicator, and I considered that a little more Earth-friendly.

It wasn’t until college that I heard of something called a menstrual cup. I wasn’t sure what it was, or exactly how it worked, but I knew one girl who used one and she was waaaay crunchier than I was.

That was then. Bwahaha! 😀

So long story short, after I had my son and committed myself to ridding our lives of scary things that make us sick (like chemicals and plastic, both of which live in a traditional maxi pad), I decided I wanted to give menstrual cups a try. I had heard nothing but great things about DivaCup. Sure, I had some reservations about using something that seemed like it could be complicated or uncomfortable, but after just a few uses it was easy as can be. No fuss, no mess. If you have those same concerns, let me assure you: you can do it. I promise.

Here’s a statement straight from DivaCup describing their mission:

Diva international Inc. makers of The DivaCup® (menstrual cup) and The DivaWash®, offers women an environmentally responsible and economical alternative to tampons and pads, thereby changing the face of feminine hygiene around the world.

Billions of tons of pads and tampons are dumped into landfills each year, and consumers are becoming more aware of this every day. Because of this, women are looking for a cost-effective way to make a positive impact on the environment. The DivaCup® significantly reduces one’s eco-footprint while providing the most convenient, clean, reliable, and comfortable way to address the monthly cycle and the issue of disposable feminine hygiene.

Obviously, using a product that eliminates waste is good for the environment. But the benefits of DivaCup go further. I honestly think that using DivaCup is one of the best things you can do for yourself as a woman. Seriously. Pads and tampons are full of chemicals that have no place in a woman’s body, and I have even been told by friends that their flow and uncomfortable symptoms decreased when using a menstrual cup. I chose cloth diapers mainly because I didn’t want yucky toxic ingredients next to my son’s most delicate parts, so I should be worth the same consideration, right? 🙂 I think so. I encourage every woman out there to just give DivaCup a try; it might take a cycle or two to get used to it, but it really is easy…and you’re worth it.

Happy Earth Month, from me and the folks at DivaCup!

And just a note: DivaCup provided me with a product sample for review purposes, but I was not compensated at all for providing a positive review.

I’d love to win because I think that it would be much safer than regular tampons. It’s kinda scary learning about the checmicals used, and we put that in our bodies! Even just that they’re bleached to make them look prettier (really?!why!). I love that the menstrual cup is much more natural, and less yucky changes!

I would love to win this, because I am very sensitive, and this would help my exposure to chemicals. I have switched to hormone free birth control, and I would love to try this! Thank you for the chance 🙂

I’d like to win this to try out a different brand or give to a friend – I recently bought a different brand and can’t wait to try it. I saw something about moldy tampons and I’m eager to switch to something clean and reusable. I like that it catches the fluid instead of absorbing it.

Love menstrual cups for so many reasons, my health, the environment, cost, etc. I think all ladies should be making the switch.
