How do I love tea? Let me count the ways…

I’ve fallen in love.

Given that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, it only seems appropriate, no?

I’ve always been entranced by warm things in a cup. Coffee, tea, cocoa, cider, wine…whatever. No matter the weather, there’s just something about wrapping my hands around a warm, fragrant cup of something delicious that gives me the fuzzies. I love that you can personalize your own cup of warm yumminess, whatever it may be, with flavors and add-ins and foam and cinnamon or any number of other “take it up a notch” add-ins. To me, it’s always been right up there with the ice cream sundae on the fun scale.

When I got pregnant, I sadly gave up the Joe I had gotten so wrapped up in over the years. I used to consume a LOT of caffeine. I get jittery just thinking about it now. And since I’ve been nursing for the past 27 months, and we’re trying for baby #2, caffeine and I won’t be getting back together any time soon. Decaf it is.

And that’s great. Decaf has been good to me. But I’ve found a new love. We met around Christmas, and it’s been a whirlwind affair ever since. It’s Candy Cane Lane tea from Celestial Seasonings, and yes…I would marry it if I could.

“This delectable holiday blend starts with naturally decaffeinated green tea and adds unmistakable seasonal flavors like cool peppermint, creamy vanilla and a dash of cinnamon. Candy canes have been cherished symbols of holiday spirit for centuries, and Candy Cane Lane® is sure to become a festive and healthy tradition at your celebrations!”

—Charlie Baden, Celestial Seasonings Blendmaster

And if it were just about the taste, that would be enough. I mean, how could I not be devoted to something that completely squashes my 3 pm office snack attack with only a few measly calories from the raw honey I add? It’s a veritable weight loss tool! Celestial Seasonings teas also happen to be 100% all-natural. You know I dig that.

But this relationship is even more complex than that.

Tea is good for you. And green tea, even better. According to WHFoods.com, green tea delivers the highest concentration of beneficial phytonutrients (and the least caffeine) of all teas. Particularly rich in health-promoting flavonoids, green tea just might protect against a lot of health conditions, “from simple bacterial or viral infections to chronic degenerative conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke, periodontal disease, and osteoporosis.”

To me, that means if I drink tea, I just might live longer, so I can drink more tea. How’s that for a pretty perfect situation?

And it doesn’t have to end after the holidays! Candy Cane Lane Tea is available year-round at CelestialSeasonings.com. Order some…and let the love take over. :)

**The All for Love event starts February 1st, with prizes sponsored in part by Celestial Seasonings!

Don’t miss it!**

Semi-lazy day

Since today is my only day off this week, I really wanted to sleep until at least 7am. The little person in my house, however, had a different plan. At about 6am, I woke to a little fist repeatedly pounding me in the face. When I opened my eyes, I could make out a huge smile in the dark and heard, “tatatatatataTA!”

I knew what that meant. Sleepytime is over – it’s time to play.

So my plan for the day was to go pick up a few groceries and make sure we get in a good jog (at least 3 miles is pretty good for me.) Now that we have a new jog stroller, no excuses! Then, home to clean up the house and spend some time outside with Finn.

I put together a quick breakfast of grapes and fruit and seed crunch crackers from Ryvita. I wasn’t too sure about these crackers at first because they’re really dry and look a bit like packing material, but it only took one bite for me to fall in love with them. They’re all natural, with honey and currants for the perfect amount of sweetness, and chock full of whole seeds. They are the perfect mate to this organic white tea with cinnamon from Clipper that I would marry if I could.  I was devastated to give it up while pregnant (because of the cinnamon content.) I try to keep it in moderation now that I’m nursing. It’s absolutely heavenly, and it can almost trick you into thinking it’s a dessert :D

A quick pic taken on my laptop. I do not recommend eating these anywhere near a laptop, however. Lots of crumbs.

I’ve been experimenting with my camera, so here are two pictures. One inside by the window in the morning light, and one outside by the picnic table. I like to use the cutting board when I can for simple meals and snacks, because I like the feel of it and because I don’t have a dishwasher and it makes for a really easy clean-up!

A little note about the violets: these are wild ones from my yard. They were one of my Gram’s favorite flowers, and the flower we used at our wedding. There are only a few left so I’m trying to enjoy them while I can. We used candied ones on our vanilla bean white chocolate wedding cupcakes, and I love the scent and taste of them. One of these years, I’m going to learn how to candy them as well as make a sugar syrup out of them to use on pound cake. Aren’t they pretty?

No plans yet for dinner. Sometimes a lack of planning leads me to my best creations, and sometimes it causes me to cave in and settle for less than what I want to be eating, At this point, I’m thinking fish, so it’s looking good. Either way, it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day so I’m going to force myself to abandon laptop and get my hands in the dirt with my boys.

Bye, all!
