Milk Nursingwear to the Rescue! Review and Giveaway {Ends 4/28}

*Disclosure in accordance with the FTC: I received a sample product to facilitate the following review.

Mark my words. One of these days, I’m absolutely going to answer the front door with my boob out.

I guarantee it.

Poor FedEx guy…Keeping myself together is a challenge these days. I’m still on maternity leave, adjusting to having 2 children, and adjusting even more to meeting the needs of 2 breastfeeding children. Most days, I’m kind of a mess, struggling to “get it together” (whatever that means) before I have to go back to real life at the office. One of the very last things on my mind is how I look.

That said, there are days that I have to muster up the courage to pack both kids up in the Honda and go to a place where there are other people. Like Target. Target is where my sanity lives. It’s also the place where I can’t show up wearing sweatpants and a milk-spotted pajama shirt.

Enter Milk Nursingwear, the freshest nursingwear on the planet!

The folks at Milk heard my cry for help and they sent over their long-sleeved empire scoop neck nursing top in this pretty chocolate brown color. And my husband got happy, and life got just a little bit easier.

Now that is what I’m talkin’ about. This nursing top is so comfortable, and it goes with everything. It’s a total no-brainer. I put it on, I look put-together. The super soft fabric is 60% cotton, 35% poly, 5% spandex and easy to wash in a warm cycle. Then, just hang to dry (you can tumble it on low, but I don’t. I just put it on a hanger and let it dry.)

Our budget is tight right now, so I can’t go out and buy a whole nursing wardrobe, as much as I’d like to. So, the pieces I have need to be versatile, and this one is. I can pair this easy-to-wear nursing shirt with jeans to go shopping or with nicer pants for work, where it will make pumping a snap. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate pieces that take me from work to weekend. The less complicated, the better, and this shirt fits the bill. And there’s no weird contraption in it like I’ve found in some nursing tops. Just a simple empire seam to access the nursing openings. (Works like a charm with a sling!) When you lift up that seam, it looks a bit like a nursing tank. And when you’re done? It goes right back into shape, without having to fuss with it. Barely anything shows, which is great for NIP. Especially in Target…which I do a lot.

…and while we’re talking about that empire seam, I have to mention how flattering it is. Especially with the slight flare happening around the midsection. I really loathe posting photos of myself around here, and I’ve been especially uncomfortable being photographed since I had Little E. I still have 8 pounds to lose, and the spare baby tire is still hanging around. But you know what? I’m not a model, I’m a real mom, and I’m willing to bet you probably are, too. So here it is. Me, 7 weeks after baby. :)

It really inspires me to lose those 8 pounds because I think once my waist is slimmer, the cut of this top will really show it off. I’ll have to retire it to the back of the closet during the hot weather, but I have no doubt it will be my favorite nursing top again come fall! For now, to get me through the summer, I’m putting the Knotted Nursing Tank Top from Milk on my wish list for Mother’s Day!

Buy it!

The Empire Scoop Neck Nursing Top in long sleeves is available in berry, brown or deep purple at MilkNursingwear.com for $38.00. You can even earn Milk Money Rewards when you shop and use them to save on future purchases!

Win it!

The Anytime Bralet from Bella Materna: Review and Giveaway {Ends 4.24)

*Please note:  I received a complimentary product for review purposes. As always, I will only promote products that I personally use and/or recommend to my readers.

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ve probably heard me griping at some point about my inability to find a decent-fitting nursing bra. grumble grumble…

Some of the problems I’ve encountered during my 3-year quest to find a great bra:

  • Weird shapeless mom boob or uniboob
  • Lack of support.
  • Lack of coverage (the always-embarrassing “headlights” issue)
  • Inability to accommodate the varying sizes from pregnancy to breastfeeding
  • Loss of support as the day goes on. (Great at 8:00am, saggy by lunchtime.)
  • Flimsy straps
  • Itchy fabric
  • …and the list goes on.

The folks at Bella Materna thought that they might have the answer to my issues, so they graciously allowed me to give their Anytime Bralet a shot.

A Green Gift: Conscious Box Review and Giveaway

Writing a blog has some fun perks.

Once in a while, I make a few dollars, and every so often, I get a free product to try out. That’s fun. But, the true treasures are found when I happen upon a new friend–a fellow conscientious greenie. No matter what your priorities are, life can get a little lonely when you don’t know many people who share them, so finding like-minded friends…well, it’s a gift.

So, when Jameson Morris contacted me to try out his new offering, the Conscious Box, I jumped at the chance. It was apparent to me right from the get-go that Jameson is 100% dedicated to introducing his customers to the best in eco-friendly, conscientiously and sustainably produced products. There’s no greenwashing here…the concept behind the Conscious Box is from the heart.

What is the Conscious Box?

“Conscious Box is a monthly delivery of pure and sustainable products that are handpicked from businesses that care for the planet.” These products are carefully vetted by the folks at Conscious Box, and meet their strict criteria. A pretty, seasonally decorated box arrives at your doorstep, complete with an inspirational, heartfelt message and filled with sample sizes of pure and natural products from ethical businesses you can trust.

Sounds like a fun thing to find in the mail, huh?

I received the November and December boxes to review. Honestly, I was a little skeptical at first. Samples sizes don’t excite me all that much. I guess I just feel like you don’t get much of a chance to really try a product from a tiny sample. Well, when the boxes arrived, I found that these were no tiny samples. Many of the products seemed nearly full size, and the ones that weren’t were still generous enough to really give them a good try.

Here’s the November box:

…and December:

I couldn’t possibly provide a thorough review of all the products I received – there were too many of them! But I can tell you that there were several that I already purchased faithfully, and a few that have become new favorites.

Good Earth lollipops, Honest Kids organic juice pouches, Kind fruit and nut bars, Eat Cleaner wipes, Justin’s nut butter – they were all staples in our home already, and I was happy to see them among my Conscious Box loot. (A huge sign that Jameson and I are most definitely on the same page.)

Several new products that piqued my interest, and then FAR surpassed my expectations, include BerryPlus laundry soap (made from soapberries!) and EarthFriendly Products cinnamon-scented room freshener spray. Love, love, love…LOVE!! Scented products are one thing that many toxin-conscious folks miss, and I was thrilled to be able to spray and scent my living room (and cinnamon is my #1 favorite scent!) SCORE! These two will definitely be joining my regular arsenal of household products. :D

I saw a few differences in the 2 boxes I received, and they told me a lot. The November box was great, but the December box was even better. More products, bigger samples, coupons…that tells me that the folks at Conscious Box are working hard to find more and more companies to share with their subscribers, and they are succeeding. This is a company focused on growth, so, in my opinion, this is the time to subscribe. I would bet that these monthly deliveries are only going to get better and better! :)

Get your Conscious Box!

Gift yourself or a greenie friend with the gift of sustainable surprises each month! Visit Conscious Box to subscribe now, and be sure to like them on Facebook where you just might find fun opportunities to get extra goodies added to your next box just by leaving a comment or sharing ideas on how to reuse the delivery box.

A little TLC from Kashi

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m not a big fan of snack bars. They always seem like a mindless way of consuming a bunch of calories while in the car or at my desk – quite the opposite of mindful eating, in my opinion. (Plus, most are just too candy bar-ish to seem even remotely healthy.)

But, when I had the opportunity to sample Kashi TLC Peanutty Chocolate Layered Granola Bars, I figured,  I like Kashi cereal, I like Kashi frozen pizza, I really, really like Kashi frozen entrees, so why not?

The purpose of this sampling opportunity was to share the bars with my mom’s group. Since my group recently lost its meeting location due to the fact that someone might see someone else breastfeeding, (It was a public place. Yeah, I know, don’t get me started. Grrr…) I was left with a dilemma. How to sample out these bars!?

Easy! I took them to the place where there are more moms per square foot than any other place I know: my office!

I set them out, all pretty-like, on my desk, and let the fun begin.

My health-conscious coworkers tried them. My not-so-health-conscious coworkers tried them. My coworkers who normally snack on cake and candy bars tried them. I sent a few home for wives and kids, and I tried a few myself.

Nobody was familiar with this particular Kashi product, and everyone was excited at the opportunity to try them. The overwhelming consensus? They were a huge hit!

Top comments were:

  • Yay for thick fudgy chocolate! (and fiber!)
  • Not too sweet, which is a plus.
  • Calorie count was not too high, acceptable for an afternoon snack.
  • Great for kids, but totally adult-friendly, too.

All natural chocolate, peanuts, whole grains and NO HFCS. What’s not to love? :D

You win, Kashi. I have since purchased a box to stash in my desk (but I assure you, I will pay attention while I eat them :) ).

Do you know ABE?

When it comes to blog hops, there is one person I trust to make each event a success. Jess from My Silly Monkeys started A Blogtastic Extravaganza (a giveaway hop) some time ago, and I’m excited to announce that ABE 3.0 is officially ON!

Here’s the button to prove it… :D

Photobucket

I’m even more excited to announce that I’m on the roster, and I’ll be hosting a big fat giveaway in January as part of the ABE team!

Jessica puts her all into this event, and it has become nothing short of a raging success. But my participation is about more than just a little bit of blog traffic. Since being a part of ABE, I’ve found fantastic brands I love, learned a ton about blogging and web stuff in general, and made lots of other bloggers that I can truly call friends.

There is still room on the list if you’d like to join the group, but hurry – the roster is limited to 100. All you have to do is host a giveaway with a minimum value of $100. If there is any one blog hop I’d encourage you to try to be a part of, it’s this one, fo sho.

So sign up today before all the slots are full, and get to know ABE! Just click on the button above and fill out the simple application form.
