Get to Know Sambazon: Review and Giveaway {Ends 6/18} #MomsMeet

A girl’s gotta have priorities. Right now, I have to pick and choose my priorities pretty carefully because my two biggest priorities (Little Man and Baby E) kind of trump all others. Getting my butt out of bed in the morning, staying awake during my commute and getting a good, healthy breakfast into my body are all at the top of the short list.

Luckily, I’ve found a new juice that takes care of those daily to-do’s. I’ve seen Sambazon on my grocer’s refrigerated case for a while, but I never tried them until I was offered the opportunity as a Moms Meet™ blogger. Once I went to the store with my coupons and really looked, however, I found that Sambazon fulfills a lot of the priorities that sometimes fall down a little lower on the list, but are still really, really important to me: All Sambazon Superfood juices and smoothies are Non-GMO, USDA Organice, vegan, gluten-free and provide whole food nutrition. They’re also Fair-Trade certified, meaning that they support the environmental and social well-being of the Brazilian Amazon and its people (2 million acres of the Amazon rainforest and over 10,000 family farmers, to be exact!)

Just reading the ingredients of the Sambazon organic juices and smoothies got me excited for breakfast. Here are some details on the three varieties I tried (and shared with some of my coworkers):

Blended Breakfast: This is the first beverage to combine whole fruit with quinoa, amaranth, chia and organic/non-GMO verified soymilk for a truly nourishing and satisfying smoothie. The strawberry/banana blend is a good source of fiber with 7g per bottle.

Protein: I tried the Chocolate + Almond + Coconut Milk since any one of those flavors is enough to turn my head. All 3? Definitely a winner. My coworker and I split it and while we through the texture was only the teeniest bit chalky, we really liked the flavor. This is a breakfast in itself, and I felt like I didn’t need anything else with it.

Acai/Antioxidant: This is the original Amazon superfood juice, and it’s bursting with powerful antioxidants and healthy omegas. I fought my free radicals with the Acai + Blueberry + Pomegranate flavor, and it was my favorite of the bunch. I was surprised, because it didn’t have all of the coconut/chocolate/grains of the others, which I thought I’d like better. This one was simple and really smooth (although a tad sweeter than I had expected) and with a thinner consistency, it went down super easy. I probably could have gone through 3 bottles if I had them. My buddy at work agreed that this was the best one we tried.

Sambazon is also available in an Energy blend (which I didn’t choose because it contains caffeine – a no-no for me right now) and a Supergreens with Kale and Ginger blend that contains two servings of whole fruits and veggies and no added sugar. There are ten varieties in total, and each 10.5 oz bottle retails for $2.99.

As a busy breastfeeding mom, I love having go-to products that I can pick up when I’m in a hurry without having to think about them. Sambazon is now one of them! It has every quality I look for in a drink (or food), so I know I’m spending my money wisely and getting quality, bio-available nutrition.

My Introduction to L’Occitane

You know what really gets me riled up?

When companies plaster “eco-friendly” or “natural” claims all over their SO-not-natural products just because they think consumers aren’t savvy or educated enough to know the difference. It’s called greenwashing, it’s everywhere, and it’s wrong.

But you know what I really love?

I love when I find a company or product that I’m interested in and want to buy, and then I do my research and find out that the company has an underlying commitment to sustainability and the betterment of our planet. You see, if a company has a really great products and a great commitment to sustainability, it doesn’t have to use one to sell the other.

…and to find one, well, it makes me feel like I’ve unearthed a true treasure. :D

This is exactly what happened when I found L’Occitane beauty products. I had heard the name many times before, but I had never really looked into the company much. But when I finally did: Wow! I was surprised – and uplifted! – to learn of their widespread commitment to sustainability, natural ingredients and ethical business practices.

L’Occitane, as a company, is committed to sustainability from its ingredients to its packaging and store practices. The folks there work to source sustainable ingredients, lessen the consumption of limited resources, and engage in fair trade and ethical treatment of the people creating their products.

“For the past two years our staff have been travelling to West Africa toteach the L’OCCITANE way of making soap to women in the Burkina Faso co-operative, where our pure shea butter is made.” ~ Olivier Baussan, L’Occitane Founder

In reading about L’Occitane, the one thing that really stood out to me was that they don’t claim to be perfect, but they have a tremendous dedication to continuous improvement. They detail SO many plans for how they plan to make their processes even better – like adopting a Life Cycle Analysis for many of their products, which means they can analyze the sustainability of each product from production to packaging, finding ways to improve along the way.

And, to top it all off, their products are gorgeously packaged, with a huge selection including bath and body care, home fragrance, haircare, and baby and men’s items, too! The ingredients and scents are deliciously tempting, which is SO much fun, since scent is usually the first thing to go when you decide to go a little greener.

Visit L’Occitane’s website to browse their selection of  beauty products and anti-aging skincare, and learn more about their commitment to sustainability and the future of our planet. Or, stop by one of their 170 boutique locations!
