Changing Diapers: Review and Fuzzibunz Giveaway!

Kelly Wels is on a mission to change your diapers.

Ok, maybe not your diapers. That would be silly.

She’s on a mission to change the type of diapers you use. Unless you already use one of the many, many varieties of easy-to-use and uh-freakin’-dorable modern cloth diapers on the market–then she’s on a mission to make you feel like the coolest mom on Earth.

Either way, I think she’s succeeding. After reading through her new book, Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom’s Guide to Cloth Diapering, I’m feeling pretty hip and eco-fabulous, and if I didn’t already love cloth, the fluffy bums pictured in the book would change my mind for sure! :D

Have you ever considered using cloth? Have questions? Come on – admit it. You’re wondering what happens to poop in your washing machine, right? Or maybe you’re worried about the “stink factor.” No matter what your questions or concerns might be, you can bet Kelly addresses them in this book.

I wish I had had a guide like this when I first started out. The choices were mind-boggling. Prefold? All-in-one? Pocket? Fitted with a cover? Hemp, bamboo, microfleece, PUL? What did it all mean? I was sure I wanted to try cloth, but also very sure I didn’t want to waste my money trying 25 different types before I landed on one I liked.

This book addresses that very issue perfectly, along with every other issue pertinent to cloth, in a relatable, understandable, friendly voice. The voice of another mother who really wants to make a difference. You’ll learn how to choose, how to clean, how to deal with nighttime, as well as details about different brands, accessories, the eco-benefits, helpful cloth diapering bloggers and so much more. Plus, you’ll find tons of fluffy baby bottoms that are reason enough to give cloth a try!

It’s hard to explain the heartwarming feeling of hanging your cute little dipes on the line to get some sun, or the feeling of knowing that your child’s most delicate parts are not wrapped up in toxic chemicals and plastic. With modern-day cloth, wet, poopy diapers actually verge on fun. No joke.

Join the movement! Just click the banner below (or the button on my sidebar) and get your very own 248 full-color pages of pure fluffy love! ….makes a great stocking stuffer or shower gift!

Have I convinced you to try cloth? Are you already a fluff addict? You’re in luck! Kelly has also offered one lucky reader ONE FUZZIBUNZ ONE-SIZE DIAPER and one “I’m a hip mom and love cloth diapers” ECO-FRIENDLY TATTOO!

Enter to win using the simple Rafflecopter form below.

The only mandatory entry is the first one on the form: Leave me a comment below telling me why you love cloth diapering OR why you’d like to give it a try. Make sure to leave your email address!

Win Aluminum-free Deodorant from Tropical Traditions! Ends 8.1

It’s no secret that I love Tropical Traditions coconut oil, and I also adore Tropical Traditions organic thick rolled oats (my favorite oats ever!)

So I was more than open to the idea of trying another Tropical Traditions product, especially after my recent promise to myself that I would work on using more natural health and beauty care products.

Of all the products I use over the course of my day, I would have to say that is the hardest to replace with a natural alternative is deodorant. Why? Because your deodorant has to work.

And if it doesn’t? Well, that just stinks.

But since I’m still nursing, and still trying to conceive baby #2, it’s more important than ever to me that I don’t put scary toxic ingredients on my underarms (one of the most absorbent parts of the body) or anywhere else, for that matter!

Since I was used to buying pantry items from their online store, I was surprised to find out that Tropical Traditions carried a deodorant that fit the bill. What a nice surprise! Their natural deodorants are chemical-free, paraben-free and aluminum-free, and the base of the formula is their organic virgin coconut oil (which I already use on my body every day.)

The sample I received was the (very pretty) Lavender scent, which includes:

ingredients: purified water, organic Virgin Coconut Oil, organic jojoba, plant based emulsifying wax, grapefruit seed extract, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and organic essential oils of lavender, lemon, and rosemary. (Other scents include Classic and Frankincense.)

I have to admit, at first I wasn’t sure how this stuff worked. I felt a little self-conscious the first day I wore it to work (probably should have used it on a weekend to start.) My old deodorant worked for me for years and I never smelled a thing, but with this product I did notice a little more perspiration than normal. Not that it left me sweaty – just enough that I noticed (I’m pretty sure I was the only one…)

But now, after having used it for a few weeks, I don’t notice any weirdness anymore. I really think the body just requires an adjustment period to a new deodorant – especially after more years than I’d like to admit using a mainstream version. I’m not sure Tropical Traditions deodorant would be the right thing to wear for an intense workout, but it’s very suitable, comfortable and reliable for day-to-day use – which I think is a fair trade-off for the peace of mind that comes from using a much, much safer product.

Want to try Tropical Traditions aluminum-free deodorant for yourself?

Win it!

Today’s featured sponsor is Milkin’ Cookies!

Milkin’ Cookies are lactation cookies for nursing moms, designed to help increase milk supply. They were developed by two mommies (who also happen to be physicians) on a quest to create a product that would help on-the-go mommies like themselves keep their milk supply up. Knowing that some foods were known to increase milk production, they developed the recipe for these yummy cookies!

Milkin’ Cookies are made with wholesome ingredients including whole wheat flour, flaxseed, wheat germ, and oats. Each cookie has just 190 calories and has a whopping 3 grams of fiber! They’re all natural, with no artificial ingredients or preservatives, and they include no medicines.

Milkin’ Cookies are delicious and bursting with wholesome flavor. They’re individually packaged so you can toss them in your diaper bag or briefcase when you’re on the run. They’re a tasty way to treat yourself during a busy day.” ~Milkin’ Cookies

For the sake of disclosure, I have to tell you that I have not tried Milkin’ Cookies myself. They are, however, a Parent Tested, Parent Approved (PTPA) award winner, and they have quite a following of devoted lactating mommies! Read testimonials here.

These mamas sound like pretty smart cookies to me, dontcha think? ;)

Interested in giving Milkin’ Cookies a try? Well, they’ve been kind enough to offer my lucky One Whole Year winner a 2-week supply of cookies! Yay! :)

One Whole Year Event Day 2: Inspired by Finn!

It’s Day 2 of my One Whole Year Event! Remember, there are 7 prizes, and one winner takes all! I’ll be announcing one sponsor each day, but you must enter HERE to be eligible for the whole prize package!

Ready to meet today’s One Whole Year sponsor? It’s….

Inspired by Finn!

Inspired by Finn carries baltic amber teething necklaces, and let me tell you, these things are popular!

It is widely believed that baltic amber can be a great help with teething pain.

Why?

According to Inspired by Finn, baltic amber contains analgesic properties and helps take the edge off of many types of discomfort associated with dental issues, headaches, joint pain, etc.

But that’s not all…

Baltic amber is also believed to:

  • strengthen the body’s immune system
  • restore energy
  • maintain wellness
  • break a cycle of chronic inflammation

At first, I wasn’t so sure that I bought into the hype. But then I tried one!

I have to be honest: Little man isn’t teething hella bad right now, so it’s hard to tell how well the necklace works. But, he IS teething, and he’s getting through it pretty well. There hasn’t been a time that he’s cried with the necklace on, and that says something. Plus, it’s just over-the-top cute on him, and he doesn’t even pull or tug on it because he hasn’t yet figured out that it’s on! ;)

We are really loving our necklace because it seems to be the most natural way to combat teething pain, and I dread the appearance of molars. I had planned to team up my necklace with Hyland’s tablets, but now I’m putting my faith in the necklace alone. Judging by the reviews I’ve seen, I’m pretty confident.

A few frequently asked questions:

Do babies chew on the necklaces? No. These necklaces are not teethers, and are not meant to be chewed on. They are meant to be worn to help ease teething pain.

How does I use it? Just put the necklace on your baby. Some people wrap it around baby’s ankle and cover with a sock. For the amber to be effective, it needs to be placed against baby’s skin so that the stones’ healing oils (succinic acid) can be absorbed by the skin.

Are they safe? Each individual stone is double knotted on the cord so that if it does break, the stones will not fly. Please be sure to supervise baby at all times while he or she is wearing a teething necklace. Inspired by Finn does not recommend letting baby sleep with the necklace on.

Have you tried baltic amber yet? Do you want to? Well, you’re in luck!

Inspired by Finn has offered my lucky One Whole Year winner the in-stock item of their choice! (16 inches or smaller)
