Pregnancy Journal: 35 Weeks!

Gettin’ down to the wire, baby!!

Welcome to my Pregnancy Journal: 35 weeks!

Baby is about the size of a coconut!  (A 5lb coconut? I think this one might be a little off…no offense, TheBump.com)

Fun facts about Week 35: According to TheBump.com, baby’s hearing is fully developed and now she’s just focusing on gaining fat and filling out. Continue reading

Preparing for a New Adventure: Tandem Nursing

Look what I got in the mail this week… I know, right? I never thought I’d need it. Especially with my kids spaced more than 3 years apart. I have to admit, the thought of nursing both of them – at the same time – is a little daunting. When I started nursing, I’d never even known a nursing mom, so I really am in uncharted territory with this whole thing. The only thing I know for sure is that I committed to a full-term run with my boy, and that run is still going pretty strong. Continue reading

Wanna be a hot, healthy mama? Try Knocked-Up Fitness {DVD Review}

So, if you’ve been following my Pregnancy Journals at all, you’ll know that I was still running until about 28 weeks into my pregnancy. Yeah, well, that’s is not happening any more. At all.

In fact, I’m having a little trouble even getting around with my back pain and nearly constant Braxton-Hicks contractions. But WOW, do I feel horrible when I’m stagnant and not moving! Especially since my days require me to sit in a car for 3 hours and at a desk for 9.

Even though I’ve only gained about 18 lbs, which is well within my doctor’s recommendations, sitting = unhealthy, unhappy mama. We preggies need to keep moving as long as we can!

The answer? Well, after much forcing myself when I reeealllly didn’t want to, I found the answer in the form of two DVDs I had been staring at for a week or two. You know how they say that once you start exercising, you find yourself with more energy to exercise? That is exactly what happened when I started doing Knocked-Up Fitness! Continue reading

Pregnancy Journal: 32 weeks!

Welcome to Week 32 of My Pregnancy Journal!

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted a journal entry. The biggest news I have to report is that this baby is seriously kicking mama’s butt! I had no idea that 2 pregnancies could differ so much. When I was 32 weeks with my son, I was still going strong and had no complaints, but this time? Ugh…

Week 32: According to TheBump.com, baby is the size of a squash!

New developments: Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions (painful ones!), extreme fatigue, and back pain that just won’t quit. Baby has settled into a really low position, and she is SOOO active, constantly kicking me in places that really don’t feel so good. :(

Weight gain: 15 pounds total. Next weigh-in is Friday.

Names: Nothing yet. I have one I like, but the hubs won’t buy in on it. So basically, we are at square one. Not good.

Baby purchases: We bought a Fisher Price Rock n Play sleeper, a new Ergo (on clearance for $50!) a Maya Wrap ring sling and a few outfits. Car seats are the main thing I’m concerned about now. I’m thinking Graco or Britax.

The unexpected: So, last night we spent several hours getting checked out at Labor & Delivery at the hospital. I spent a good day and a half flat on the couch, unable to move much and feeling really sick. It was very flu-like with aches and pains, but without the fever or head symptoms. That can indicate HELLP Syndrome or pre-eclampsia, so I called our midwife and she wanted us to come in right away. I could barely stay awake while they poked and prodded, but after a few hours and lots of tests they told me baby looks good, and it must be me just brewing up some kind of flu or something. I’m not confident that it’s really just some kind of bug, because I feel fatigued and drained but not “sick,” but I’m happy baby checked out ok. I guess we’ll just wait and see.

All in all, things are going well. I’m glad the holidays are over, and I’m going to try really hard to appreciate these last weeks. It’s tough when I can’t walk across the room without having to sit down (and to think just a few weeks ago I was still jogging!) but I have to be thankful for what I have. I can’t wait to meet this little one! :)

To-do List: Baby’s room (haven’t started yet!), finish shopping, redo bathroom floor (I ripped out the carpet this week, much to Daddy’s surprise), replace toilet, organize closets, go through baby stuff and sort what we can reuse, get back to Knocked Up Fitness DVDs as soon as I’m feeling better, fill out Maternity Leave paperwork, and use January to stock up on freezer meals.

Oh, I almost forgot. The photo…Getting big, huh?

Before Baby To-Do List: The Impossible Bedroom Makeover

Warning: You are about to seriously question my judgement.

A little over a year ago, our family moved into our new house. We made a very conscious decision to think big with the land and small with the house, with our main objective being to grow a lot on our land while keeping our footprint and overall environmental impact small.

Great in theory. In practice? Well…we have a dilemma.

THIS is our son’s room. We really haven’t done anything with it since we moved in.

Please excuse the diaper laundry (they’re clean, I promise.)

This is NOT a nice room. The carpet is ugly, the walls are dull, and there is not a single full-size wall to put furniture against. One wall has stairs, one wall has a radiator, yet another is a partial with a weird-shaped closet. And overall, it’s very small.

Here’s the best part: In 10 weeks, we will be moving baby girl in there, too.

How on EARTH am I going to do it? WHY did we ever think this tiny house was a good idea?!

Honestly, I do have faith that it can be done, but I know I’m going to need to get creative. Storage is key, and we’re going to have to think “vertical” to make use of all the space. Plus, I know that a coat of fresh paint can make all the difference. Just look at what it did for our awful, 1985-dusty-rose and tacky gold turned cool mustard yellow office!

Hard to believe it’s even the same room!

Even though I have to remind myself of it sometimes, I still believe in our initial commitment to a smaller house. We do have an attic that we plan to turn into 2 bedrooms, but it’s not going to happen anytime soon…and a home decor genius, I’m not.

That’s why I need you! I know that lots of you out there are just full of creative ideas (I’ve seen them, and you amaze me every day!) so I’m hoping maybe you’ll take a look at our pics and send a few of them my way.

What can we do? I need help…and fast! Project Kids’ Room starts the moment the holidays are over!
