Daydreaming about the perfect gift…

Mother’s Day, my birthday (40!), my anniversary…they’re all coming up soon. And what do I want, besides an 8th day in the week strictly for relaxing? There’s one thing I covet above all others: some snuggly muslin from aden + anais.

I fell head over heels in love with aden + anais products when I got the bamboo swaddle blankets I put on my baby registry. I had heard such great things, and boy did they ever live up to the hype! They’re softer than soft and such a generous size for really good swaddling. We got a few of the Classic Muslin Swaddle Blankets, too, and they also became fast favorites.

You may be wondering what the big deal is about muslin. Here it is, from the experts themselves:

“Muslin is a finely-woven breathable fabric believed to have originated in Bangladesh during the Middle Ages. Its delicate yet durable weave makes the fabric stretchy and, therefore, ideal for swaddling, as the natural “give” allows the blanket to be tucked snuggly around a baby without being overly restrictive.

The lightweight muslin also permits air to circulate around the baby’s body, while still providing comfort and warmth without the worry that the baby may overheat in moderate weather. Cotton muslin is also a workhorse fabric, in that wraps woven from this natural fiber stands up to repeated washings only becoming softer — and better — with age.”

That statement about not letting baby overheat really is true. For some reason, both of my kids put out some serious heat when they sleep, which leaves them sweaty and hot all night long. The muslin helps keep them from getting too hot, which helps me sleep better and worry less. Besides the swaddlers, Elliette now has a classic sleeping bag, which is great now that the weather is warming up. She can wear it alone or over a onesie to keep her feeling safe and snug without the need for a blanket or anything else. The single layer of muslin is light and allows air to circulate so she stays comfortable. Plus, it gets softer and comfier each time it’s washed!

Silly girl…

We got her the Monster Mash print…see the super cute little monsters? Not scary at all. :)

And besides keeping her at a safe and stable temperature, it also has the added convenience of a zipper that zips up from the bottom for easy diaper changes (and it keeps that zipper pull out of her mouth.)

Don’t think we forgot about Finn! He got some super soft muslin of his own (four layers of it, in fact!) – the Dream Blanket in the Liam the Brave print.

If you look closely, you can see how quilty and soft it is. The texture is just so decadent, it almost pains me to hand it over to him. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a blanket this nice!

The funny part is that he doesn’t understand that it’s a dog on the blanket. He insists it’s a wolf. A big, tough wolf. Must be a boy thing…

And yes, even though it’s a bit thicker than the swaddlers or the sleep bag, this blanket is great to use when it’s warmer out. Each layer allows the air to circulate, just like the other pieces from aden + anais, keeping him snug and happy.

See?

And that, my friends, is why I’m daydreaming about aden + anais as the perfect gift. The Daydream Blanket in the branch print, to be specific. It’s the perfect adult-sized version of the Dream Blanket, and I want one like crazy. I mean, after seeing kids looking this comfy, who wouldn’t?

We moms rarely get to wrap up in something so indulgent, so I’m hoping for a Daydream Blanket for Mother’s Day! Until then, I’ll just keep snagging the kids a+a when they’re not looking.

(Shhh…they’ll never notice. A swaddler makes a great scarf…and it comes in handy as a nursing cover, too!)

Summer Fashion from Gymboree: It’s all in the details.

Either I don’t know how to “nest” correctly, or I didn’t get a chance because Baby Girl came so early, but I’m certainly making up for it now. During my maternity leave, we’ve gone through tons of bins from the garage, bought a new pantry, ordered a new chest freezer for this year’s harvest, and now I’m stocking up on clothes for the kids. It’s hard not to when you have Gymbucks from Gymboree burning a hole in your pocket!

A Play-by-Play with the Tiny Love Gymini Move & Play {Giveaway Ends 5/13}

When our little girl reached the 2-month mark, I fell into a common mom trap. I saw my friends’ babies, of similar age, reaching some milestones and I got a little worried because my baby wasn’t doing the same. So I hopped online and started Googling, and that made it even worse. Gross motor skills? Fine motor skills? Hand/eye coordination? Was her development affected because she was born early? Were these things I should be worried about? As it turned out, the answer was no. I put her on her playmat, gave her a little tummy time, and within days she was laughing and playing just as I had hoped.

I promised myself I would put all those “milestones” in their place and remember that every baby is different and develops at her own pace, but I also promised myself that I would make a bigger effort to help her engage in age-appropriate play. The play mat she had was pretty boring, with just 4 clip-on animals dangling down for her to swat. So, I started looking for another option. One with a little more action. And when I found the Gymini® Move & Play, the folks at Tiny Love were kind enough to send one our way!

Hygeia Breast Pumps: The Mom-Friendly, Eco-Friendly Choice

Well folks, I return to work in less than 2 weeks. I can hardly believe my baby girl is creeping up on 3 months old, and my maternity leave is coming to a close. And you know what that means: it’s time to break out the breast pump. Am I happy about it? Honestly, no. But I am happy to introduce you to a new friend and the sponsor of this exciting (and pretty intense!) “tandem nursing work-away-from-home mom” leg of my breastfeeding journey: Hygeia!

We all know that breastfeeding is eco-friendly, right? It’s 100% natural, and requires no manufacturing, packaging or transport. But for many of us, breastfeeding requires the use of a breast pump, and that’s where we’re faced with another opportunity to make an eco-friendly choice. After some research, that choice brought me to my new pump, the EnJoy™ LBI Breast Pump with Deluxe Tote Set. Continue reading

Celebrating Earth Day with Bamboobies: Review and Giveaway {Ends 5/10}

I have a riddle for you!

What’s shaped like a heart and fabulous enough that I keep it close to my heart all day, every day?

Yup! You got it! These days, I’m never found without my BAMBOOBIES!

Do you know about Bamboobies? They are, without a doubt, the best washable nursing pads on the market. Besides being a single-use product that ends up in the garbage, disposable pads are filled with a nasty gel (like disposable diapers) that bursts out when it gets too full. One night, I found it on my skin and my son nearly ingested it. From that day forward, I have only used washable fabric pads. I have tried so many, and mark my words: I will never use another brand. My heart belongs to Bamboobies! Continue reading
