It’s really incredible what a little music can do. Saturday is cleaning day at our house (that’s today) and my kids were whining like crazy this morning. Bickering with each other, complaining, and generally acting like I was the worst mother in the world for asking them to do a few chores. (Heavens, NO!) So I pulled out my secret weapon – some high-tempo Bruno Mars and a little old school Hanson – and within minutes, it was a full-on dance party, complete with vacuum and dust rags! We’ve done it this way before, but today was so much more fun because we had sound everywhere thanks to Google Chromecast Audio – an unassuming new little tech gadget that hooks up to your speaker or home theater receiver and streams millions of songs, radio stations and podcasts wirelessly from your phone, tablet, or laptop. (I’m using an iPhone 7 Plus)
I know, tech stuff can be kind of…ugh. It can be confusing and hard to figure out, especially with kids underfoot. But really – Google Chromecast Audio is super simple. I set it up on my phone in under 4 minutes, and it comes with exactly the cords you need. Just attach it to your speaker, new or old, and control it from an app like Pandora, Spotify, YouTube Music, or Google Play Music.

How to stream your favorite music with Google Chromecast Audio:
- Simply plug into your speaker’s auxiliary input.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Tap the Cast button from your favorite apps on your phone, tablet or computer to cast songs, radio stations and podcasts to your speaker.
- Chromecast Audio
- 3.5mm analog stereo patch cable
- Power cable, power adapter
- Owner’s manual
If you have more than one Google Chromecast Audio, you can fill every room in your home with synchronous music. Simply group the devices together to play the same audio in multiple rooms. There’s no need to keep moving things along with you as you bop around the house!
Why WiFi instead of Bluetooth?
Chromecast Audio uses WiFi instead of Bluetooth, but I wasn’t sure why that was a good thing until I used ours. The sound quality is so much better – crystal clear, in fact. you can stream crystal clear hi res sound. Plus, it’s just really convenient to be able to text or call without interrupting what you’re listening to or running your battery down.
Grab a few Chromecast Audio at Best Buy (where it currently has a 4.5 star rating!) and stream music in every room of your house. It’s an easy and really inexpensive way to upgrade the whole music system in your house. You just might start looking forward to cleaning day!
