Even though we moved into our house 2 1/2 years ago, there are days when I feel like we’ve barely settled in yet. My mom always said that a house is not a home until you’ve hung art on the walls, and I think she’s right.
Oh, who am I kidding…she’s always right.
So that’s a current priority of mine – hanging the art we have, and finding some new additions, too. I have vivid childhood memories of the art in our home, and I want my kids to have them, too, so I make sure that everything we hang has its own story. My biggest project right now is finding a place to hang the current star of our show, a large yellow print of flowers that was actually handscreened by my dad in the early 70s, right after he returned from Vietnam. He wasn’t the artist, but he worked for a screenprinter and the pieces are pretty hot on eBay right now, so I was thrilled to get my hands on one. (It’s definitely a statement piece!)
But art doesn’t have to be elusive to be meaningful. The world of photo art has exploded in recent years, and it’s now possible to have your photo memories made into gallery-style canvas prints for any room of the house. Easy Canvas Prints just made one for us using one of my favorite personal photos. I took it during a walk along the Susquehanna River last summer.
It’s not on the wall yet because we’ll be painting our bedroom soon, and I think this father/son moment will look beautiful on our new gray walls along with some black and white birth photos. I like the idea of mixing textures, so maybe a few canvases, some prints under glass, a painting on wood or metal. A family wall with lots of candid photos to fall asleep under each night. Nice, right?
Easy canvas prints offers sizes ranging from 8×10 up to 24×36, in your choice of framed or gallery-wrapped, in color, black and white or sepia. They give you the option of uploading photos straight from Instagram (fun filters!) or Facebook which makes designing your canvas easy, and there’s an Image Quality Indicator so you’ll know if your photo has the right resolution for canvas. The photo I used for my canvas print was from my iPhone, so I wasn’t expecting great quality, but I’m really pleased with the result!
We chose the .75″ gallery wrap, and I chose to have the image wrap around the edge. Depending on your photo, you may want to add a colored border.
If, like me, you’re thinking that you might want multiple canvases, Easy Canvas Prints makes it foolproof with tons of templated wall displays that you can design yourself. I’ve seen them on a friend’s wall and the effect is fabulous, so I can’t wait to do ours.
Each canvas also comes with standard wall hanging hardware, and shipping is really fast. We had our canvas in about a week!
