I wore black to my wedding. Is that weird?
My husband and I got engaged in June and we were married on August 15th. The weeks between were kind of a blur, to be honest. I was thinking more about getting married and being married than the actual wedding itself, so I chose a simple black dress, did my own hair and didn’t even carry flowers. We had a simple party with our friends and family at our favorite local winery and went on our merry married way.
But I can’t say that I don’t look back, just every once in a teeny tiny while, and wish I had done it a little bigger. A little better.
I’ve really been thinking that we need to renew our vows someday. Originally, I wanted to do it this year on our 5th anniversary, but we had just welcomed our second little one and then I quit my job. I was barely showering in August, so I sure as heck wasn’t up to planning a wedding renewal event.
Maybe 10 years? I think that might be our time. Our finances will be a little steadier. My son will be 8. Our daughter will be 5. Our marriage will be 10 years strong and it will be nearly 30 years since we first dated. Wow. That thought kind of blows my mind.
But what do I wear? Black again? Mmmmmaybe not. I’ve never been the big “cake topper” wedding dress type, so I’ll probably just browse bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses or cheap evening dresses to find something simple yet elegant, not wedding-y, but still special enough for a special day. (I really think the key to shopping for wedding dresses on a budget is avoiding the word wedding.)
I think all of these dresses say “me”! And each is within the $100-200 range. That, in itself, is a reason to get dressed up!
