My yellow office is turning green! (Staples review and giveaway)

My little girl turned seven months old this week, which means it’s been about NINE months since I started trying to get my home office together.

When she was born, I had no idea I’d be quitting my job. But I was already starting to do a little freelance work, so it was very important to me that I have a working office. We took our front room in all of its mauve and gold glory and painted it the greatest shade of mustard yellow. I absolutely love it, but after our Little E’s early arrival, my vision came to a screeching halt. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to find the time to get that room in order. Just LOOK at this!

And yes, that is a Christmas present on my desk. I’m not proud.

Finding time to shop for just the right decor for my long-awaited office? HARD.

Finding the will to organize mail, warranties, receipts, and tax info? HARD.

Getting the kids to nap or be otherwise occupied so I can so much as sweep that room? HARD.

Finding the perfect eco-friendly office supplies? EASY!

Wait, wha? Yup...easy. That’s because I had a little help from the Sustainable Earth from Staples line of office supplies!

Staples makes everything easy, right? 😉

I’ve always gotten a little bit excited about things like binders, notebooks and brand new pens. (Nerdy, yes. But I was an English Lit major. What did you expect?) So when Staples sent me a greened-out notebook make of sugarcane (!!) all I could think was “Sweeeeet!”

But then, I saw that the Sustainable Earth by Staples line also included items like a stapler and calculator made of recycled ink and toner cartridges as well as sustainably produced clasp envelopes, tissues, compostable plates and cutlery, even toner cartridges. Seriously, there’s a ton of stuff in the line – something for everyone, for sure – and the prices are suprisingly low. Having worked in a large corporate office environment for so many years, I saw firsthand the colossal amount of waste that comes out of an office. These eco-friendly supplies will make a difference in my little home office, but can you imagine what they could do on a bigger scale?

And, to help with my organization, Staples sent me their BETTER® Binder with removable FileRingsâ„¢. It’s a durable binder that I can customize with my own files to fit my needs, and when they’re full I can just slide the files out and put them right into my file cabinet. Again, EASY!

Staples Better Binder

I’ve been motivated to get my office ducks in a row for a while, but now I’m really determined to find the time to do it. Stay tuned and hold me accountable…please?

If you are going to have a home office ,first you have to treat it as such ,if you was working away what would your work space be like ? piled with everything that did’nt belong ?I don’t think so .Get everything out ,put back only what is supposed to be in your office .

  9. Get a filing cabinet!

    • Oh, I have several! I’m just not good at filing effectively with a 3yo climbing on my head! haha…once I get it straight, I’ll be fine. (And since writing this post, I’ve gotten through almost all of it!)

  10. Sort your mail as soon as you get it, into junk, bill, and etc piles so that junk can be thrown out

  11. Organized storage, especially on a desktop! Working at home can be very tricky – it’s important to separate your “work” space from everything else at home. I’m so guilty of getting mail for my business and busily tossing it in with everything else on the kitchen table…. and then forgetting it for weeks. *sigh*

  12. Lock your kids and husband out. Kidding! (sort of). Have a place for everything, follow the rule of one in/one out and don’t touch anything more than necessary- file that mail as it comes in, or toss it immediately.
