My New Favorite Accessory: Teething Jewelry from #Chewbeads

Maybe it’s because my baby loves them, or maybe it’s because the only accessory I’ve been sporting lately is a stain on my shirt, but I’m totally and completely smitten with my new Chewbeads. “Mommy chic, baby safe”, Chewbeads are teething necklaces that mommy can wear and baby can chew on!

Have you seen Chewbeads? There are tons of styles and colors to choose from; I have the one pictured above, the Jane style in Ivory. Since other jewelry is out right now due to a very grabby baby, I wore my beads to a belated 4th of July party last night – and the comments were flying! At least ten different people asked me about them (there were babies everywhere!) , and I know I sold a couple of moms on the idea. Well, ‘I’ didn’t. My baby girl did. One look at her gnawing on them, and those moms took notice!

An added bonus was that the beads seemed to keep my baby focused in my direction and attached closely to me during the party. There was quite a big crowd with lots of revved up kids, and it was the first time she met everyone, so it was a bit overwhelming (not to mention way too hot for her carrier.) It’s hard to explain, but I really felt like the beads were a comfort to her in the midst of all the chaos that she isn’t used to.

Chewbeads really just look like a chunky beaded necklace, and they come in a variety of cool colors like chartreuse and cobalt blue, among others, but they are made of 100% silicone , like a pacifier or nipple, that is free of BPA, PVC, phthalates, cadmium and lead. Totally safe for baby to touch and chew on. Elliette likes to grip mine when she nurses, too, which is nice because then she’s not gripping my hair…or my nose.

All necklaces have a breakaway safety clasp, but no detachable parts, and each bead is securely tied with an individual knot so that the string of beads won’t come apart. (Of course, they are meant to be worn by mommy only and chewed under strict supervision at all times.) The beads are soft, with a little “squish” to them, and you can even toss them into the dishwasher!

I really think that my Chewbeads teething necklace is a fun and funky addition to my outfit, and I’m trying to figure out which color I need next. Without a doubt, these are on the short list of things that both my baby girl and I are loving right now!

Note: My other necklace is a hard stone nursing necklace – NOT meant to be chewed by baby.
