My Underwire Revelation {Bella Materna Nursing Bra Review ~ Ends 6/10}

After 3 years of searching, I finally found a comfortable nursing bra I love! I wrote (and raved) about it, and much like when I had my first child, I doubted that I could ever love another bra so completely! But, like any mom of multiple kids knows, when another one comes along your heart grows big enough to accommodate them all! And that’s exactly what happened when I found the Bella Materna Basic T-shirt Nursing Bra with underwire.

Wait. What!? Yes, I said underwire. Crazy, I know. I avoided them like the plague for years, thinking they’d give me plugged ducts or mastitis or just be really uncomfortable. I thought breastfeeding and underwires were mortal enemies. Not so! Anne from Bella Materna advised me that the underwire is just fine for nursing moms (that’s why they design them, of course) and that I might feel a little weird in it at first because I wasn’t used to a wire anymore, but that’s perfectly normal. And she was right. I was uncomfortable for a quick minute, but after wearing this comfortable underwire nursing bra for a day, I fell right back in love with underwires.
I felt like my old self again! And my boobs were actually… well, boob-shaped! …and, UPLIFTED!

The pretty Basic T-shirt nursing bra gives nursing moms the “lift” they need with the help of their patented Flexy-wire®, which has been used for 12 years and is lactation consultant-approved. It’s soft and the elastics are plush so there’s no digging, no discomfort – only comfortable support like your favorite pre-pregnancy T-shirt bra. And since it’s T-shirt season, you have every reason to need a bra that will fit smoothly with dependable support and a shape that will make you feel confident in your favorite summer clothes. I can personally attest to the fact that this bra has given me more of a “real” shape than any other nursing bra I’ve tried. I finally don’t feel like I have to layer my clothes to hide my shape!
The most unique feature, I think, is the set of “Infinity Rings.” They’re discreetly attached between the cups (you can see them in the pic, above, if you look closely) and you can use them to convert your bra into a regular non-nursing bra when you’re done breastfeeding. Isn’t that cool? That tells me that a lot of people use these bras for a long length of time, which means they must be pretty durable. Mine is new, but given the quality construction of it, I would guess I’m going to wear it for a long time to come! And if lots of customers are having theirs converted, that means Bella Materna customers want to stay Bella Materna customers even when they have the option of shopping for regular bras!
Other features include:
  • sizes: 32–38 B-E cups (want F & G? See Basic T-Shirt Full Cup)
  • patented Flexy wires® for safety and comfort
  • one-handed nursing clip access (I do really love the pull-aside access of the Anytime Bralet, but the clips on this are as easy as clips can be.)
  • on body adjustable straps
  • 6 set hook-and-eye closure at back to accommodate changes in curves during the pregnancy and nursing stages.
Aside from the actual products they sell, there are a lot of reasons I like Bella Materna as a company, too. Their garments are created for moms, by moms, and the company’s mission is to support and celebrate the changing mother’s body in a safe and conscientious way.
Straight from Anne and Candace, the moms behind Bella Materna:
“Bella Materna products are made from high quality, materials that are Oeko-Tex 100% certified to be free of toxins for moms and babies.  90% of all items are manufactured in the USA (Seattle WA) and are always produced under safe healthy conditions.   We believe in what we make: 100% satisfaction guaranteed.”
I feel great about supporting a company like Bella Materna, and I feel really great about the “support” they provide for me! I can’t wait to try more of their designs, underwires included. A whole new world has opened up to me, I definitely see more Bella Materna (and more T-shirts) in my future!
