Mum + Bub: Natural Skincare for Baby and Mom {with giveaway, ends 12/8}

The first year we were married, I gave my husband a pair of pawpaw trees for Valentine’s Day. He had always wanted them, and I can understand why: the fruit of a paw paw tree looks like a small, fat banana and tastes custardy and tropical, sometimes compared to a banana cream pie. With that kind of description, who wouldn’t want a pawpaw in their backyard!?

He planted those trees and tended them, but sadly, they didn’t make it. We’re not sure why, but we have new land now and since we’ve often talked of planting a tree for each of our kids, I’ve thought of trying again with a new set of pawpaws.

Needless to say, they’ve become kind of meaningful to us.

Now, my husband doesn’t get too excited when I get packages in the mail, but imagine his surprise when I showed him my newest discovery: mum+bub, a naturally-derived line of skincare infused with none other than fresh, fermented pawpaw! We knew we wanted to eat them, but had no idea that the pawpaw offers such great healing and nourishing skin care properties when applied topically. It’s all in the papain enzyme, which gently and naturally conditions skin.

“Pawpaw fruit is to skin care what muslin is to swaddling.”
          ~Raegan Moya-Jones, CEO and co-founder aden + anais®

Mum+bub is from aden+anais, the same company that brings you those fabulous muslin swaddle blankets and sleep gowns that everyone is always raving about, so I jumped at the chance to try our their bath products. The line includes hair and body wash, soothing ointment and an ultra gentle lotion, all free of:

  • phytoestrogen
  • parabens
  • added hormone disruptors
  • petroleum oils
  • phthalates
  • dioxanes from sulfates
  • gluten and soy
  • petrochemicals
  • DEA
  • artificial colors

The first thing I noticed was the lovely, delicate sandalwood scent of the tear-free hair and body wash. I nuzzled my little boy’s head so much after his bath that I think he got a little annoyed with me, but he just smelled so good! I just might get myself a bottle as a treat, since I would love for my hair to smell like that, too. I also plan to use the lotion, especially while I’m pregnant, since it’s free of yucky chemicals. I like to try and treat myself the same way I would treat my baby, since whatever goes on my skin goes right to her…and mum+bub makes me feel safe and pampered at the same time.

Another added bonus? All mum+bub products are made right here in the USA. None of their products are tested on animals, and most are vegan (with the exception of the soothing ointment, which contains beeswax instead of petroleum.)
