Eco-friendly Green Kids Crafts, delivered right to your mailbox!

Sometimes, you get hit with a rainy day and you just need to find something for the kids to do.

And other times, you have several whirlwind days in a row and even though it’s beautiful outside, you need to find a quiet thing to do inside just to wind the little ones down a bit.

That’s what happened to us this week. After our return from Sesame Place, little man was just worn out. It’s funny, though, how little kids just can’t sense it when they need to take a moment and just chill. He wanted to go and go and go, so I pulled out the big guns:

“Hey buddy, you wanna do an art project?”

[insert “screeching to a halt” noise here]

And it was the perfect day for such a thing, because we had just received a new box of eco-friendly craft supplies from Green Kid Crafts!

I was a little skeptical of this service at first, mostly because it seems like every day there’s a new monthly subscription service to some box o’ stuff. But this one’s different…and it’s brilliant!

Founded in 2012 (by two dedicated moms) Green Kid Crafts is a pretty simple concept. You subscribe online, then once a month you receive a box in the mail filled with kits to create 3 individual crafts. The moms behind the company are passionate about inspiring parents and children to appreciate both artistic expression and environmental responsibility. (Perhaps the two most important things ever, IMO.)

Straight from Green Kid Crafts, their Environmental Commitment:

  • We use recycled content wherever we can.
  • We work to make sure all craft supplies can be recycled.
  • We avoid craft foams and plastics.
  • We minimize packaging and printing, and we print double-sided.
  • We use recycled labels and paper envelopes for shipping.
  • We use plant-based sustainable and compostable clear packaging.
  • We offset 100% of the carbon dioxide generated by our business and help fund the development of renewable energy projects across the United States.
  • We integrate eco-awareness into our craft themes wherever possible.

We received one kit to make a scrapbook, one to make a pirate hat and booty, and one to make an adorable set of wind chimes. We had to supply things like tape, glue and scissors, but everything else was there for us, neatly packaged, down to the cruelty-free feathers. :) If I had purchased all of these supplies separately, especially if they were sustainable and eco-friendly, I would have spent a fortune.

Another great note about this company: it is the only carbon neutral craft subscription service in the nation, offsetting 100% of the carbon dioxide generated by business activities and help fund the development of renewable energy projects across the U.S.

And this face? Priceless. Both when he’s creating, and when he gets a box in the mail! It’s a win-win! (and that’s why I’m now a subscriber! :D )

I strongly aprove of these kits. No one told me about them, but I saw on face book that the girl’s other grandmother was probably getting them for Simmons 3. I looked into it a little more and decided to order it for my other granddaughter living in Aspen/Snowmass. They all love these kind of crafts. I used to keep them here to do, but they don’t come enough to keep that stuff here. So shipping things like this to sweet appreciative little Hanna was a no brainer. I can’t wait to see some of the products. Maybe she can pick out something by then that we can do together when we visit her in July sometime. They are all little greenies too!

Idea: Maybe you could make a box for grandparents to do with them for Christmas time. I would love that. Thanks for your inspiration.
