Notice anything new? (Hint: Check out my sidebar!)
Getting a new button, along with getting linked up with the Blogmania 2011 Dream Team, has really sparked a lot of curiosity in me. Being hosted through WordPress.com has put some limitations on my blog, which has pushed me to do a little research on the technical side of blogging and social media in general, and I’ve decided it’s time for me to start learning a little more.
When I started talking to Melanie at MommyDoodles about my button, it got me thinking,”I wonder if I can do that?” I’ve never even opened up Photoshop on my work computer before (I have it, but as a writer, I don’t need it), but I decided yesterday that I was devoting my lunchbreak to learning, and I wasn’t stopping until I had a button! And you know what?
I DID IT!
Ok, so it’s a pretty rudimentary button, but it’s my button. I made it myself, and I’m oddly fond of it. Plus, my sad little button is more than just a small square of virtual space – it’s a representation of the fact that I am still learning, still growing, and I can do anything I put my mind to. That is one of the biggest pieces of the foundation I want to build for my little boy, so I’m loving the feeling of empowerment my little button has given me! (So you’ll probably be seeing lots of experiments here at ABCGP in the coming months! Please be patient with me!)
So, my new career as a graphic designer (or maybe we should just call it a hobby for now… ) is a really fun new step for me, the girl who hates not knowing how to do something…
…who hesitates to ask questions for fear of looking like a newbie…
..who, despite LOVING marriage and mommyhood, misses the learning, growth and just plain brain workout that I experienced during my college days.
The only problem? I don’t know if my button actually works. If you feel so inclined, go up to my Button Jar and grab the code, and let me know if it works for you. (Please note: the button I made is NOT the one in my sidebar. To find it, you have to visit my Button Jar page.) If you can give me any pointers, feel free to send them my way!
But I’m warning you: It really is a button only a mother could love
